In August 1995, childhood friends Seth Brody and James Allen found themselves spending their freshman year of college together, enrolled in Florida State's Study Abroad program in Florence, Italy. Allen was in the burgeoning stages of his musical development, honing his guitar skills, waiting for the right time to unleash his innovative, harmonic vision to the world. Coming off a semi-traumatic breakup with his rap/dance/pop music trio The New Born Boys (formerly known in North America as Freeform and SKIL-ATCHI Seth) the multi-dimensional Brody was downtrodden, but ready for a new challenge. As Dame Fortune would have it,they stumbled upon a spine tingling truth . . . the numbers that define their respective statures are precisely the same, albeit backwards. The palindromic nature of their collective heights was like a sign from the Gods. FIVESIXSIXFIVE was born. Over the next several years, Allen and Brody used a unique blend of music and art to promote their creative niche. Allen, having graduated with a BA in art, pursued a career in design and development. Brody graduated with a BFA in visual arts and acquired a job as the Technical Director of a performing arts high school in Ft. Lauderdale's inner city, designing and building sets for the school's plays. The two used their background to promote and enhance their allure as visual artists first, then as musicians. Live streaming images, robust sets, and theater illusions were trademarks at FIVESIXSIXFIVE's early shows. . Ft. Lauderdale alternative/indie rock fans scene quickly caught on, and FIVESIXSIXFIVE has responded with a groundbreaking self titled debut album. Utilizing his privileges as Technical Director, Brody beckoned his delinquent tendencies to gain the band access to his high school's performing arts building, enabling them full use of otherwise unattainable orchestra equipment. Their sound is an amalgamation of digital sequences and live accompaniments. A medley of everything from antiquated sequencers, live drumming, marimbas, vibraphones, glockenspiels, Tam Tams, tympanis, to Brody's apocalyptic voice and Allen's angelic guitar rifts, FIVESIXSIXFIVE, has managed to pull off an experimental, yet mesmerizing, hypnotic first release. Inspired by a wide range of bands, from Tortoise, The Flaming Lips, Duran Duran, Modest Mouse, to A Tribe Called Quest, Led Zeppelin, and N.W.A. (Rest in Peace Eazy!), FIVESIXSIXFIVE's sound is innovative and rangy. Having recorded, mixed, and produced their self-titled first release all on their own; this is truly an independent release, from start to finish. Brody and Allen even handle the band's guerilla marketing efforts, from silk screening t-shirts in their backyard, to producing and packaging the band's cd singles, they were involved in the entire process. Says Brody, Buying our cd is like a grant. It allows us to keep creating. Ain't no bling blinging there. And you can tell by the forcefulness with which they've arrived on the scene, you'll be hearing more from FIVESIXSIXFIVE.
